Further Information on Larnaca and Cyprus

Larnaca InformationLarnaca international airport lies just a few kilometers from the centre of the town and alternative means of transport other than hiring a car include booking a private airport transfer where your very own personal driver will meet you in arrivals or you can pre book a seat on a private shuttle bus which is a slightly cheaper option.

If you plan to see some of the attractions and historical sites while visiting Cyprus then there is one major attraction that lies close to Larnaca which is well worth a visit. This is the underground chapel of Ayia Phaneromeni. This is a rock cavern with two chambers where the structure suggests that it was once a pagan tomb which dates back to Phoenician times.

The site is credited with various magical properties such as healing those who suffer from headaches or other diseases by walking three times around it and leaving a piece of clothing or a tuft of their hair on the grill in front of the south window. It is also frequented by girls, whose partners are overseas and come here to pray for their safety.

Another wonderful and interesting place to visit is the Church of Lazarus which is a magnificent Orthodox Church in Larnaca and was built in the town over the tomb of St. Lazarus , the brother of Mary and Martha . He died here and was buried in the church named after him in 890 A.D. The tomb was found bearing the inscription "Lazarus the friend of Christ". The marble sarcophagus can be seen inside the church under the Holy of Holies.
