Shopping in Cyprus
The main shopping area in Paphos is situated in Kato Paphos and a commercial centre which offers a wide range of shops from boutiques to specialist retailers can be found in the town centre of Paphos.
At the harbour and along the promenade you will find many different craft and gift shops.
Cyprus is very well known for handcrafted goods and the government have even recognised the value of this by creating the Cyprus Handicraft Service. Popular gifts and holiday souvenirs are the Lefkara lace, ceramic pots and embroidered linens.
There are many different shops and markets that you can buy from in the towns.
However, visitors that travel to the villages, where much of the handcrafted items are made, also have the chance to familiarise themselves with the original handicraft culture of Cyprus.
Villagers are more than happy to show off their work and in the island’s cultural areas you will find that items are also sold at better prices than in the major towns.
Other items which can be worth going for are spectacles, shoes, leather, suitcases and gold which are cheaper than in most other european cities.
The shops in tourist areas such as Ayia Napa stay open all day during the week, but in towns such as Larnaca and Nicossia, which offer a wide variety of shopping facilities, the
shops tend to close in the middle of the day.
